Weddings

Pictures of Mr and Mrs Caroline & Drew Gregg’s wedding at St Mary’s Church Broughton Astley

Weddings are conducted throughout the year at all three Church buildings and our Team will be pleased to help you prepare for your big day. The best place to start is the Church of England’s wedding website https://www.churchofengland.org/life-events/your-church-wedding

There are, however, some current legal requirements which you will need to know about. Some frequently asked questions include ‘Can I marry outside of my parish?’, ‘Do I need to have been baptised in order to marry in Church?’, and ‘What is the Church’s current position on the remarriage of divorcees?’ some of these questions are answered on the Church of England’s website however we also have some FAQ’s which can be dowloaded below .

When all the forms have been filled in our administrator will book an appointment for you to have a meeting with our priest who will conduct your wedding and you will also have the opportunity to ask questions about the service. We look forward to hearing from you.

The wedding enquiry letter, application form and the fees can be downloaded below (the fees change yearly on 1st January). The form needs to be completed, and then forwarded to the e-mail below. If a paper copy is required, then contact our Administrator on the e-mail below who will also supply an address to return the form to. The form must be completed in black ink.

Baptisms

At our three churches we welcome all for baptism (christening). Baptism is for children and adults.

Baptisms usually take place in the Parish on the following Sundays :-

St Mary the Virgin, Broughton Astley
Second Sunday of the month.

St Michael, Stoney Stanton
Third Sunday of the month.

St Michael & All Angels, Croft
Fourth Sunday of the month.

Baptisms are public services, and normally take place during the morning service. To arrange a baptism please contact the Parish Administrator who will advise on available dates. Completion of a baptism application form is required once a date is confirmed.

Baptism is free and we welcome all.

Prior to the baptism the candidate and/or parents are required to attend a baptism preparation meeting. These short meetings will be arranged to occur at the church, usually after a morning service. The family will meet with the baptism coordinator, to give information about the baptism and answer any questions. The coordinator will also be there on the day of the service to welcome the family and support the priest at the baptism.

Baptism Application Forms – please download, complete and return to the parish email:

Confirmations

Bishop Saju and Reverend Pauline with Michael Wootton

Confirmation is a special church service in which a person confirms the promises that were made when they were baptized. If you were baptized at a christening when you were a child, your parents and godparents made these promises on your behalf. As a young person or adult, you may be ready to affirm these promises for yourself and commit your life to following Jesus Christ. At a confirmation service, you make these promises for yourself. Your friends and family as well as the local Christian community will be there to promise to support and pray for you.

The local bishop will lay their hands on your head and ask God’s Holy Spirit to give you the strength and commitment to live God’s way for the rest of your life.
